Eye Candy in Fukuoka
If there was a place in Japan that showed me some form of “love”, it was Fukuoka.
Sure, I haven’t been all over Japan but I think it’s safe to say that Fukuoka has the most good looking guys out of ALL of Japan. (If you want to prove me wrong, I welcome you to do so!)
I remember the first day I walked the soil of Fukuoka. Hottie was present and hottie actually said hello to me except I was a bit too “absorbed” in my own world to respond back. By absorbed, I mean pretending to be busy on the phone and having a major moment of, “Did he just say hello to me?” (He had said “-chiwa” and my brain couldn’t register right away that he was saying “Konichiwa”.)
Did I mention he was hot?
Then, not a minute passes by where I see another hottie. The guy is a restaurant employee, talking to potential customers or friends. Which is which, I’m not too sure.
At this stage, I’m asking myself if my eyes are off or if I really did just see two hotties within a super short time period.
Oh, I should clarify that my first actual encounter with a guy in Fukuoka was with JR employees at Hakata Station.
One of the guys was sweet and super welcoming to me. ❤️ He actually went out of his way to press the button that would open the sliding doors for me. (FYI: I had luggage with me but as Ms. Independent, I was prepared to press the button on my own.) As my brain was still in English mode, I hope the guy actually heard me saying “Arigato” as I said it quite quietly and a tad bit delayed.
The slight delay most likely came about from my slight surprise at him being a gentleman. Believe it or not, but he was the first (and possibly only) gentleman I encountered in Japan. I hope he stays that way. (He can easily win ladies’ hearts that way.)
Then comes the actual station I needed to get off in Fukuoka and the employee I encountered at this station was HOT. On second thought, hot might not be the correct word to describe him. He was HANDSOME. This guy was so good looking that he was better looking than all of the celebrities I’ve ever seen on screen! We unfortunately didn’t have much of an interaction with each other but I’m glad I got to at least see him twice while in Fukuoka. (What a shame that he had my heart fluttering and he didn’t even know! Lol)
If you thought that was it to my story, you’re wrong. There’s actually more to it. A good amount more…
The ATM guy
There was a guy waiting in line to use the ATM. Of all the good looking guys I encountered in Fukuoka, I feel that he was the most memorable. And no, it had nothing to do with him getting money out of the ATM. Honestly, he could have been in line to make a deposit or pay a bill for all I know. Anyway, he’s memorable because I caught him looking at me for a long time.
We actually made eye contact with each other and his eyes were smiling. Heck, his lips were smiling, too. I was in amazement at this point because he was sooo my type. Oh, I should add that he had perfect skin, too. I had to tell myself to calm the F down or something because I wanted to twirl around, jump and giggle all at the same time. Lol
The Cell Phone Guy
I was waiting for my travel companion. Because I didn’t have access to WiFi, I couldn’t contact her. I thus moved from the ATM area to wherever I could find free WiFi. The free WiFi was spotty af but it was better than nothing. When I finally was able to successfully send her a LINE message, I received hers a lot later thanks to the WiFi kicking off the network a gazillion times. During my wait for her message, a guy walks by.
I believe he was on his cell phone but I’m not too sure since I was too busy staring at my phone, hoping in desperation that my travel companion would get my message and vice versa. The other reason I didn’t bother to look up is because he said something.
Now, my Japanese was (and still is) horrible at the time but from what I understood, I think he was saying something along the lines of, “Why are you standing like an idiot there?” I could be totally wrong but I have a feeling I’m not. There was something else he said but that other phrase was beyond my ability to comprehend.
I am hoping this guy wasn’t the same guy as the ATM guy. (The time frame was near enough but I doubt he walked my way unless he was keeping watch of me, of course. Yikes.) I bring this mystery guy up not because he’s hot (well, I don’t know if he was a hottie) but because I found him bold. Seriously, what type of guy says something like that to someone minding their own business? Whatever…
The Girl and Her Father
Okay, so I’m not sure if he was her father, but age wise, I feel that he was. He could have been an older boyfriend for all I know, though. Anyway, one early morning, I am in a rush to catch the train because I’ve got places to see and things to do.
While in a rush, I cross paths with a girl that is with a man that looks decently older than her. We were walking towards each other. I noticed her smiling and looking excited. I thought it was great that someone was so cheerful in the morning until I realized that those expressions were for me. It was obvious the moment she stopped in front of me. I was confused and as mentioned earlier, I was in a rush to catch a train! Oh and if you must know, the guy also stopped and was also smiling but out of the two, it was her that seemed the most ecstatic.
If I recall correctly, I caught her pointing at me before coming to a halt in front of me.
The encounter was bizarre. I ended up walking to the right, around them so that I could continue to my place of destination. (Not sure if I missed the first train I wanted to get on but I was relieved to disappear from the encounter. I do recall seeing from the corner of my eye, her watching me going up the escalator. She was all smiles which was good, I suppose but I didn’t know her.)
With all of these interesting encounters, I couldn’t help but to ask myself some questions:
Do I have a doppelganger in Fukuoka?
The attention was nice, especially from the hotties but is there someone in the Fukuoka area that looks like me or kind of looks like me? I couldn’t help but to get the vibe that I was being mistaken for someone else. This is especially so with my encounter with the girl who came to a complete halt right in front of me. If the answer is yes, whoever this doppelganger is, she must be adored by a lot of people, especially hot guys. That and she seems extremely popular. Who the F is she?!? I have an itching need to know. Lol
Courtesan vibes
I really hope this wasn’t the case, but I couldn’t help but to ask myself if some of the guys I encountered thought I was a modern day “courtesan” (cough) or something along those lines. I say this because there were a lot of times I was waiting for my travel companion by a wall near heavy foot traffic and while that might be the norm in the states, it might not be in Fukuoka. For all I know, it could be hush hush knowledge within the area that a gal doing that is looking to entertain someone for money.
The love charm
I bought a love charm from Itsukushima shrine for fun and as much as I think it’s just a lol souvenir for myself (although I probably didn’t mind if it actually led me to the love of my life), a big part of me is convinced that this charm is legit. Upon getting back to America, I stowed it away out of “fear” that there would be a repeat of what happened in Fukuoka. I mean, there are times I like the idea of meeting someone but I think it’s best to let things happen naturally. A charm that attracts my type of hottie is nice, but what exactly were these hotties actually attracted to in me?
I saw you on Tinder!
Now, I’ve never used Tinder before but I’m aware my travel companion was using it while in Japan. That’s her and I really don’t care if she was hoping to meet a guy or something, but I’m hoping she didn’t have a nerve to post a photo of her with me on her Tinder profile. That’s just rude but I wouldn’t be surprised as it’s possible…
Gaijin vibes
I want to doubt this but at the same time, the people of Fukuoka might be sharper at picking up Asian gaijin vibes. After all, they’re super close to Korea and if they can tell a Korean visitor apart from a native, they sure as heck would be able to tell I’m from somewhere else. This might explain why that girl pointed at me, although I am not a zoo animal to be pointed at, though. *growls* Honestly, if this was the main reason behind those hotties looking at me like they love me long time, I’m bothered. ATM guy, please tell me this wasn’t the reason!!!!
Friendly Fukuoka?
Not everyone was friendly in Fukuoka. I received my fair share of mean looks from people. A cashier. Temple workers. (That was something simply because I’m never fond of religious sites that have mean workers and volunteers. In my mind, people representing religion/religious sites should be more nice and tolerant but then again, they’re just people at the end of the day, so what do you expect?)
Despite this, I’m glad I encountered so many hotties in Fukuoka as I do enjoy eye candy.
00:10 is me and the ATM guy making eye contact, except ours lasted longer. 😉
