Art on Naha’s Kokusai Dori
Today’s blog post is going to be different from my usual posts. It’s going to be a photoblog post of the random art I had encountered while on Kokusai Dori in Naha, Okinawa. My thoughts or captions accompanying the photos will be brief for the most part. Let’s start, shall we?
Found this blue themed art deep within Kokusai Dori. This area was quiet thanks to the absence of excessive tourists. (Most of the tourists were walking out on the main street.) Although I welcomed the peace and quiet of this area, I didn’t find the whiffs of cigarette smoke all too welcoming. It turned me off.
I am a sucker for cute pins. I loved these Okinawan themed pins and just couldn’t help but to buy some. All for myself, of course!
What a nice photo opportunity except it was unrealistic for me to be in the photo and even more unrealistic for me to have someone else in the photo with me.
Single squad. Cheers!
I was initially confused with this wall art. Like, what was the Thai flag doing here? And then I thought maybe a Thai restaurant was nearby except I couldn’t find a Thai restaurant. It bothered me because I couldn’t help but to try to figure this out. Like, what was the significance of the date on the flag?
Finally, I came to realize that it’s probably not a Thai flag since the first stripe isn’t red but pink. This means it’s just some art consisting of stripes.
I know the US has history with Okinawa, so does this art have anything to do with it? The colors are rather patriotic after all. I wonder.
Every place has a hood right? Hm, I’m not so sure about that. But in a pretty hidden area, I found graffiti and couldn’t help but to take a photo of it. Graffiti is a form of art after all, right?
Very vibrant wall art here. Tourists from “main island” Japan caught me taking a photo and probably thought I was a weirdo.
Art is art and I can’t help it if you can’t appreciate art or don’t want to associate with something less serious and more fun.
What vibes do you get from these photos?
