Normalcy in the Travelsphere?
Is the travelsphere finally back to normal? I think not and I think it’s a shame that so many media outlets are making it seem as though things are already normal or quite close to it.
While I think we’ve come a long way, restrictions still exist which only means we’re not in a place of normalcy yet.
If I want to go to Country B, I have to do my own due diligence to ensure that I meet their entry requirements on top of whatever “entry” requirements my transit country (if applicable) may have. This is not called normalcy, people. In the past, all one would really need to worry about is if you needed a visa to enter Country B or not.
On top of all this, plane tickets aren’t cheap. Well, they were never cheap to begin with, but they were at least a lot more reasonably priced whenever airlines were offering promotional fares. These days, promotional fares look a lot like regular priced fares. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that many economy class fares are actually costing as much as pre-COVID premium economy class fares. Can I say no thank you?
Yup, and that’s exactly why I’m hesitant on this whole travel thing.
From the uncertainties surrounding various restrictions to the increase of costs beyond just plane tickets, I think it’s still a bit of a gamble for the average person to travel.
Do I want to go somewhere? Yes.
Would it be wise and logical for me to do so? Probably not.
So what is my fix? It looks like I’m just going to have to settle for a cup of tea and a bunch of travel videos from YouTube. That said, I want to make a point that it is of course not impossible to travel right now. It certainly is possible and if you don’t mind navigating the uncertainties that could come about while you’re traveling, you may actually have a very good experience, especially with there still being less tourists out and about.
