“Boston” in SoCal

I had the opportunity to be in “Boston” without actually having to be in Boston. No, I’m not talking about some sister city but an actual island that allows you to transport yourself back into time to experience the historical Midnight Ride. As much as I like history (to an extent), I feel that the Midnight Ride, along with other events from the US colonial era were things I didn’t pay much attention to. I found our history books boring and opted to search for good looking guys and tasteful fashion from historical photographs instead. (I stand my ground that people back then looked better and dressed so much dapper. If someone was good looking then, they truly were good looking. These days, you just never know…)

So, this “Boston” in Southern California is an island on the grounds of a park. There are colonial style buildings on the island which serve as an educational playground for kids. Of course, I don’t think anyone truly uses it as an educational playground, but I’m sure children go far with their imaginations here, since there aren’t any colonial style buildings outside of the island. It’s also good for history buffs of all ages.

In addition to colonial style buildings, there’s a ship, bridges, waterfalls and more.

When I visited, a big chunk of the area was closed off which was a bit of a bummer.

Of course, I’m not sure how much I could see and enjoy even if it were to be open since these buildings are made more so for children’s enjoyment. For example, an adult is going to have difficulty trying to climb stairs made for kids! In other words, the interior is made for children whereas the exterior is made for both children and adults.

Anyone coming here with young children should be cautious, though, since they can still get hurt, especially with water being present: a lake and waterfalls.

For those that are interested in learning about the Midnight Ride, I believe I saw a plaque or two on the island which provides some historical information. These plaques don’t exactly stand out so you might have to go out of your way to look for them.

So, is the real Boston like this? Maybe, although I doubt it’s as fun and laid back as this “Boston”. LOL
