Tulane University
The United States has ivy league universities that are expensive and highly coveted by the rich, the educated and those that want to become elite in some way or another. New Orleans, Louisiana has an “ivy of the south”. Say what? Yes, Tulane University is a prestigious university known as the “ivy of the south”. Whether Tulane University actually deserves being called the “ivy of the south” is a different story, though. I feel that way too many universities are trying to categorize themselves as an “ivy” and I find that to be a bit cringey. Let’s just say it’s almost like having an influencer label themselves as an A-list online celebrity. Something along those lines…

Loyola University New Orleans
Visiting a university campus while traveling may seem silly but it can actually be a wise thing to do if you want to get a taste of the general vibe of the area, enjoy architecture and do something relatively chill. It’s also a good thing to do if you (or someone in your party) are contemplating on seeking higher education. In New Orleans, I had the opportunity to visit Loyola University New Orleans, which happens to be accessible via the St. Charles streetcar. I honestly didn’t think I’d bother with the visit but figured why not when I was going to be in Uptown anyway.

The Oldest Streetcar
Where can you find the oldest streetcar in the world? New Orleans, Louisiana! And yes, it’s still running. This streetcar is green and it runs along the famed Canal Street (near the French Quarter) and on St. Charles street. I had the opportunity to ride this streetcar a good amount of times in New Orleans and all I can say is that it’s a good way to get around New Orleans.

Halloween Decor in New Orleans
The older I get, the more I don’t care for Halloween. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that I haven’t been fond of Halloween for quite some time already. Despite this, I know many people look forward to Halloween. It happens only once a year after all but it’s one of those “special” days where you unfortunately don’t get the day off no matter how much effort you put into your costume or how much party planning you have to do in order to have a good time.

Racism in Travels
Racism is probably the last thing we want to think about when traveling but it can happen. When it comes to traveling, no one, not even the privileged who have never once had to experience racism in their cushy home countries are immune to it. It can be a rude awakening for the privileged yet for many people of color, it’s something that is often pondered about before something as simple as moving to another state (or city, even) can be done. Fortunately, traveling doesn’t require you to settle down, so you can often just experience any racism that you encounter and depart to a better place, hopefully.
