Beppu’s Hells
Beppu is known for its “hells”. These “hells” aren’t as scary as they sound as they’re just eight of the most touristy hot springs of Beppu. As mentioned in my previous post, I didn’t get to visit all 8 of the “hells” but something is better than nothing, right?

Walking around Beppu
When people think of Beppu, the first thing that comes to mind is hot springs. Why’s that? Well, Beppu just happens to have a lot of hot springs. Tourists tend to flock here specifically to visit 8 of their hot springs. Although I was one of those people that wanted to see these touristy hot springs, it’s safe to say that Beppu has a lot more to see than its hot springs. I took a bit of a walk around the city and this is what I ran into.

Naminoue Shrine
Just a short walk from Naminoue Beach is Naminoue Shrine. It’s a Shinto shrine that has history. But what attracts the average visitor to this shrine is probably not so much its history but more so the epic pictures they’ve come across online.

Naminoue Beach
Naha’s Naminoue Beach is empty of that stereotypical beach scene that most people crave. In a way, it’s a good thing because you can just enjoy this relatively small beach for what it is. Just don’t bother to sport a cute bikini, let alone a swimsuit here because despite Okinawa being more laid back than the rest of Japan, Okinawa is still in Asia and bikini clad women are still not a norm here.
