    Deko Car during Nisei Week

After seeing a minimal amount of itasha cars in Anaheim, I wasn’t sure what to expect at Deko Car. Would there be a lot of itasha cars? Or would there be a small amount of itasha cars, similar to the Anaheim event? Regardless, it didn’t matter much to me since I was going to be in Little Tokyo for not just Deko Car but for Nisei Week and Natsumatsuri.

    Nisei Week 2024

After going to the same event(s) year after year, I wonder if some attendees experience boredom and a need for something completely new and different. I suppose when it comes to a free event(s), you can’t really complain. And it’s that much more difficult to complain when you attend on a day that has not just one event going on, but two or more events! I think the latter is what saved me from feeling bored while out and about in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo for Nisei Week, Natsumatsuri and Deko Car.

    Natsumatsuri at JANM

Natsumatsuri was held at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM). It was held the same weekend as Nisei Week, which meant that you could enjoy Nisei Week’s activities (ex. Karate exhibition and tournament) in addition to Natsumatsuri. With so many things to do in one area that is Little Tokyo, I of course didn’t stay put at JANM’s Natsumatsuri but here is what I did get to enjoy:

    Nisei Week at JACCC

There was a lot going on in Little Tokyo recently. From Natsumatsuri to the karate exhibition and tournament held by Shotokan Karate of America (SKA), there just had to be even more going on. At first glance, in front of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC), there seemed to not be much going on but Nisei Week was already happening here.
